Evaluation:
Cooperative but information limited due to PW’s low intelligence and short period of military service.

Military History:
Inducted 6 Jul 50 at NANAM (羅南). Trained one week as rifleman at NANAM.
Departed NANAM 14 Jul 50 - rail - arrived SEOUL 22 Jul 50
Departed SEOUL 24 Jul 50 - marched - arrived CH’UNGJU about 30 Jul 50.
Departed about 31 Jul 50 CH’UNGJU - arrived HAMCH’ANG (1014-1523) about 4 Aug 50.
Departed HAMCH’ANG about 5 Aug 50 - arrived SANGJU about 7 Aug 50.
Departed SANGJU about 8 Aug 50 - continued marching - fight started with ROK soldiers at 0630 hurs, 15 Aug 50, approx 14 miles southeast of SANGJU.
Separated from unit after artillery shelling and much small arms fire from ROK army. PW and another private put up their hands and surrendered to ROK unit 15 0900 K August 50.

Weapons and Personnel:
Div, Regt, Bn - unk, 8th Co - 102 men, 2nd Plt - 33 men, 3rd Sqd - 7 men. Other sqds 7 to 9 men. Riflemen armed with M-1 rifles in 8th Co, 10-40 rounds, average 1 grenade. One MAXIM HMG in 8th Co. PW was no mortars. Four PPsh sub-machine guns in 8th Co (squad ldrs had them). Plt ldrs armed with pistols. No replacement men or equipment (15 Aug 50).

Armor:
Saw four tanks at 0900 hrs, 10 or 11 Aug 50, east of NAKTONG River (location unknown). PW believes tanks were the heavy type. Tank guns had muzzle brakes.

Artillery:
Saw 4 x truck-drawn light artillery pieces east of NAKTONG River in area where PW saw tanks.

Vehicles:
Observed many 2 1/2 ton trucks 10 or 11 Aug 50 going and coming from vicinity where PW saw tanks and artillery. Number of trucks unknown. Trucks arriving seemed to be bringing much food, some soldiers, and considerable ammunition. 3 x returning trucks carried total of 40 wounded soldiers. Observed about 20 jeeps. Observed about 5 ex carts bringing food (rice and animal fodder).

Supplies:
Received three rice balls per day. Meals supplemented by confiscating all types of food in villages through which PW passed. Ammunition last received NANAM (14 Jul).

Enemy Intentions:
Unit objective was TAEGU. Observed 4 gas masks in another plt. No gas training.

Additional Intentions:
Saw no guerrillas. Would not know one if he saw one. 8th Co was the foremost company. 1st Div split up after crossing HAN River. Other units of 1st Div were somewhere to the rear of 8th Co. PW presumes other 1st Div units proceeded south after 8th Co, 8th Bn. PW saw no Safe Conduct Passes or other leaflets.
