Name: HWANG YOUNG KON (黃永坤)
Age: 23 years old.
Address: HWANGHAE-DO, AN-AK-KUN, YONSUN-MYON, SINJUL-RI, #506.
Rank: Private, Reconnaissance Company.
Length of service: 11 March 1950 to 5 August 1950: captured at a point 2 kilometers east of SONSAN (just east of 127° Long; between 36 and 37° Lat).
Education: Completed 5th year of primary school.
Interrogated by: SUGA.


PW’s Unit:
13th Division, Reconnaissance Company (directly attached to Division), 1st Platoon, 2nd Squad.

Commanding Officers:
13th Division: LI IK SON (李益善), Major General; Korean, formerly in MANCHURIA; Division Commander at time Division left SINIJU (25 June 1950) still Division Commander at time Division left KYONGSONG (1 or 2 August 1950); source noticed at SANGJU that a new man was Division Commander, name and rank unknown; date of change unknown.

Code Names:
Reconnaissance Company of Division: 3530 unit.
Artillery Regiment: 3527 unit.

Composition of Unit:
50% were men who had entered the Young Men Training Center at SINIJU in March 1950 (40% of them were middle school students).
20% were former members of the People’s Liberation Army in MANCHURIA (source heard from them that they had been in the Army 3 or 4 years).
All squad leaders and assistant squad leaders in source’s Company had had combat experience in MANCHURIA (source heard this from them).

Movement:
The 13th Division (less 20th Regiment) left SINIJU by RR, 15 June 1950 and arrived at KUMCHON 17 June. Marched from KUMCHON (where Division left 18 June) to YONCHON, arriving there and rested in the mountains there for 1 week. (Troops were told that they were going on a field training at the time they left SINIJU; they received ammunition after they came to the neighborhood of the 38th parallel). Division left KUMCHON 27 June and arrived at KYONSONG 2 July via UIJONGBU, left KYONSONG 10 July and arrived at SANGJU 2 Aug 1950 via HAMCHANG.

Comments:
Source was very cooperative but appeared to be a man of very low mentality.
